what an eventful start of the year.
what with me falling sick and sleeping till 5pm, blackout and whatnots.
lol.
went with the Js for steamboat and then to 南锣鼓巷 where we just walked around.
and then we managed to chiong into a nice little cafe at the stroke of midnight for coffee where we had a nice long chat till closing.
and that was when i started falling sick :/
woke up to a splitting headache and feeling real horrible this morning.
so i cancelled my starbucks studying plan and went back to sleep.
and i actually slept all the way till 5pm! i think this is like the first time i've ever slept this much can!
and the other eventful thing that happened was when the electricity supply suddenly got cut off at 9plus just now when i was going to pay for my online shopping lol.
so Sock and HS went to top up our electricity card while the sick ones stayed at home to chit chat (in the dark with torches) haha.
ah wells.
quite a simple yet somewhat eventful first day of the year.

but in the mean time, it's mugging full speed for two very horrible papers.

after living in Beijing for more than a month now, i've come to realise how clearly evident our roots are from this country.
to be honest, we aren't all that different from the people here, culture, habits and etc-wise, especially when comparing the older generation in Singapore.
and to some here, our accent even sounds like that of those from Fujian, which i guess is indeed where most of our ancestors came from.
the only differences are perhaps where modernisation and education in Singapore have effected on us.
and of course governance.
of late, i've been itching real bad to experience the world and all the other cultures and geography out there.
i want to venture out of Asia (I've never stepped out of Asia once before!).
i love Korea but i wanna see the other parts of the world too (though i would love to settle down in Jeju someday hehee).
i think if i'm not gonna get married, i may try and find a job that allows me to travel around.
or perhaps i could study abroad or something, especially in places that speak a different tongue (when am i ever gonna learn all the languages that i've been wanting to learn!!!).
such dreams... they always seem so unrealistic, don't they?
especially when the discipline that i have chosen is so limiting.
perhaps i should have started dreaming earlier.

Man has something for hardships.
dramas are always about the trials and tribulations that people have to endure.
and "happily-ever-afters", as much as we may like and hope for, are always only at the ending, meaning to say we don't get to watch any of those (shows that show a happy and blissful life all the way are considered boring anyway).
and in life, isn't it common that when we talk, we only talk about bad things, the things that happened (i.e. hardships or similar), rather than how good our life is and how happy we are?

perhaps we are bitter or sadistic and are only interested in the "downs" and only such things excite us.
or maybe it is human nature to be unsatisfied when all is peaceful and well.
ah wells.

on a random note, i miss everybody.

i'm in my friends' house right now, putting up with them for a few nights while we wait for our house to be vacanted.
have been busy rushing around settling stuff everyday so far.
and much as i would like to go on fb to connect to the world, i can't connect to NTU VPN and thus i'm still blocked from fb tsk.
and China so far has been what one would imagine China to be, especially yesterday when we went on our one-day tour (if you get what i mean).
but there are things to like here too i guess (like the yummilicious 枣糕 and Mr. Pizza(!!!!) ^^).

this city also reminds me very much of Korea somehow.
the infrastructure, subway, roads, pavements, weather... etc.
but yet everything feels so different at the same time.
the people especially.
same same but different.
and this makes me pine for Korea even more yikes.

was kinda emo-ing over being here and stuff yesterday, especially after the not-very-nice encounters.
but today was quite good i guess.
i guess it all just takes some getting used to.
i will get over this.
we will all :)

i miss you guys.
thanks to all who went to sent me off at the airport.

been meeting up with many many people!
and i'm so touched that so many people bothered to take time out for me ^^
and on Saturday, we actually had a 10-year Pri 6 class gathering!!
though only a quarter of the class turned up lol.
but that was good enough i guess :)
and jc class gathering just now was fab!
everyone in sg turned up except the medics who are having exams.
yikes i can't believe i'm leaving in a few days' time.
i'm so unprepared gosh.
